WCU TO OFFER “SCARY” ADVICE
FOR HUMAN RESOURCE PROFESSIONALS
Western Carolina University will offer scary stories as well as professional advice for human resources professionals this Halloween with “Staying out of the Human Resources Horror Show.”
The interactive session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Room 143 of the Camp Building.
Jon Yarbrough, an employment attorney practicing with the national labor and employment law firm of Constangy, Brooks and Smith in Asheville, will detail horror stories in human resources management and discuss how to prevent them.
“Small businesses, large businesses and nonprofit organizations are fertile grounds for these horror stories,” said Susan Fouts, director of continuing education at WCU. “This presentation will focus on keeping your company out of the horror show by presenting case studies based on real workplace situations.”
Yarbrough writes a column for the Asheville Citizen-Times on the legal pitfalls of managing people. He has successfully represented employers in a wide variety of employment related lawsuits, and provides advice and counsel to employees regarding state and national employment laws.
The cost of the session is $50 per person or $40 per person with a group of four or more. Pre-registration is required. Groups must register together in order to receive the discount.
