If you enjoy the outdoors, your patio and garden can be your sanctuary. Make the most of your outdoor space with the right patio furniture and decor, gardening supplies and other outdoor equipment.
When shopping for patio furniture, make sure to choose the right material for your climate and how you use your patio or yard. Natural wicker is lightweight but will deteriorate in harsh weather. Synthetic all-weather wicker is more durable. Metals, such as aluminum, steel and wrought iron, tend to be durable but may get hot in the sun, and some have to be treated to prevent rust. Woods range from lightweight to heavy and have different characteristics, but cedar, eucalyptus and teak are all naturally resistant to moisture and rot.
If you like to dine and entertain outdoors, you'll want to have a grill and outdoor cooking supplies. An all-weather fire pit will transform your backyard into a cozy place for friends and family. Surround the pit with bench seating or bring out rocking chairs, and add decorative cushions in seasonal colors.
Gardening is a great way to spend time outside and can be fun with kids. Make sure to get seeds that are appropriate for your climate zone, and use the right mixture of soil, water and nutrients. Most home gardens only require a few simple gardening tools, including round- and square-point shovels, a hoe, a rake, a hose, a sprinkler and a sprayer.
