The Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer is charged by the Board of Visitors and the President with overseeing the financial operations of the University, including the Medical Center, and supporting special initiatives that have a University-wide impact.

The EVP-COO partners with the Provost and others to foster strong relationships between academic and administrative areas, ensuring strong and sustainable resources to finance academic excellence. Current priorities focus on achieving Organizational Excellence across academic and administrative areas, shifting to a new internal budget model that fosters entrepreneurial and collaborative actions in all schools and units, and implementing a long-term financial plan for academic excellence to provide the foundation for implementing the University's strategic plan.

Upgrade: 20,000 New High-Tech Phones on the Way, Starting in June

February 25, 2014 | The University of Virginia is getting new phones – about 20,000 of them. As noted in the recent email to employees from Pat Hogan, U.Va.'s executive vice president and chief operating officer, the current telephone system at U.Va. – most of which is now nearly two decades old – will soon be replaced with a more modern telephone system based on VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology, in partnership with a vendor named Broadsoft. Telephone line migration and phone replacement is set to begin on the academic side of the University in June, and on the Medical Center side in September. Jim Matteo Promoted to Associate Vice President and Treasurer at UVa

March 31, 2014 | Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Patrick Hogan has announced the appointment of Jim Matteo as Associate Vice President and Treasurer at the University of Virginia. Matteo held the title of Treasurer since April 2013 and prior to that served as Assistant VP for Treasury Management and Fiscal Planning at U.Va. since November 2008. In his new role, Matteo will be charged with expanding the strategic role of the Treasury Department at the University, directing activities related to optimum asset management, maximizing financial resources to fund University strategic priorities and developing an investment model for supporting innovation.
