Career Pathways Video
The Governor's Career Pathways System Work Group, comprised of representatives from nine workforce development partner agencies, recently released a short video highlighting the Commonwealth's career pathways system. Workforce partners at the state, regional and local level will appreciate having a concise, eye-catching tool to explain career pathways in Virginia to their public and private workforce development partners. Those working in economic development will find it particularly useful.
The video is the culmination of several months of development and production work guided by a subcommittee of the Work Group that included representation from the Governor's Office, Department of Labor and Industry, Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Virginia Community College System.
Taking Root: The Virginia Career Pathways System
The Virginia Career Pathways Initiative has taken hold in the Commonwealth. The initiative has shown results with respect to putting the framework in place to meet the changing needs of the Commonwealth's businesses and residents.
The process for developing a career pathways system in Virginia offers a window into an effective set of strategies for pursuing statewide and regional workforce development policies and practices that work. By using a career pathways framework, the Commonwealth has begun a systemic and ambitious process of alignment at the state level, and is rolling out that alignment to regions across the state.
Taking Root: The Virginia Career Pathways System provides a national context for Virginia's efforts, documents the Commonwealth's work, and suggests how Virginia's successes and lessons learned may be applied to other states.
The Workforce Development Advisory Council serves as an advisory body to the Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development Services (WDS) on system-wide matters related to credit and non-credit workforce instruction/services and to economic and community development.
