Drop deadline Friday, March 30

The last day to drop a class for the Spring 2012 semester is Friday, March 30.

Students should return a completed drop form to an academic advisor before 4 p.m. on Friday. The Department of Communication advising office is located in Room 126 in the Fine Arts building.

Scholarship application deadline Mar. 12

Scholarship applications for the 2012-2013 academic year for eligible Department of Communication students are due no later than 3 p.m. Monday, Mar. 12.

Students may apply for more than one scholarship, but must submit individual applications for each scholarship. In order to apply, students must maintain full-time status for the Fall 2012 semester.

Students may turn in applications in the Department of Communication office in Room 118 in the Fine Arts Building.

UTA Radio Joins iHeart Radio Platform

UTA Radio is expanding its reach by joining the iHeart Radio digital platform.

The addition to iHeart’s college radio roster gives UTA Radio the potential for wider visibility and recognition.

iHeart Radio is a Clear Channel Radio network broadcasting over 850 live stations through its website and mobile app. It began adding university radio stations earlier this year, with UTA Radio now joining over a dozen college stations on the digital platform.

“It will allow us to align ourselves with an entity that is second only to Pandora in the number of people accessing and listening to radio online,” says Dr. Andrew Clark, Broadcast Sequence Coordinator for the Department of Communication.

“Not only does it give us more credibility, but it exposes the work of our students to all of the iHeart listeners, and increases the national as well as the global awareness of UT Arlington and of the many things that the university offers," Dr. Clark added. "As a result of this opportunity, our students will be creating new and varied programming and have a greater platform to showcase their work.”

In addition to playing the best in indie rock, UTA Radio students also handle play-by-play duties for the university’s basketball, baseball and volleyball teams.
According to Triton Digital, iHeart’s average active sessions, the web equivalent of traditional radio’s listenership during a 15-minute period, grew to 206,000 in January. The number has been steadily increasing since November, when 162,093 sessions were reported.

Summer, Fall 2012 registration begins in April

Registration for Summer and Fall 2012 classes begins April 2. Students are reminded to check MyMav accounts for specific registration dates.

Department of Communication students who have not yet met with an advisor this semester are required to do so prior to registering for summer or fall classes. Students with academic department holds must meet with an advisor before they can register for classes.

The Department of Communication advising office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. No appointment is necessary.
