Web access

This page outlines procedures for official University departments to host websites on the central web server, and for procedures for individuals to gain access to manage websites.

Web access request

Use the Web Access Request Form ( PDF | Word) to request a new site to be hosted on the central web server, or to change personnel who have access to manage an existing site. By policy, each site must designate a primary site manager.

The form requires signatures of the requester and dean or department head. When complete, submit the form to IT Central in Social Sciences 120.

Training and certification

Any person who has access to update content or manage a website hosted on a UM server must complete an annual training and certification process on the rights and responsibilities of web content contributors. If you apply for a new web account or a modification to an existing web account on a central Web server, you will be contacted about completing the training and certification program.

The training covers UM web policies, standards, rights and responsibilities. It is offered online and culminates with a short exam. Individuals must score 75 percent or higher on the exam in order to pass.

Follow these steps to complete the program:

  1. Review the Web standards & policies: 504 (servers) and 505 (standards). Be sure and review the Policy Procedures for each.
  2. Review the Web Training Materials. The training information covers the policies as well as the proposed standards.
  3. Take the online Web Certification Exam. You will receive an e-mail notifying you of your score. In order to pass the exam, you must score 75 points (out of 100) or higher. If you obtain this score, you have successfully completed this program. If you score less than 75 points, you may take the exam again; reviewing the training materials again may help you to score better in subsequent tries.
  4. Once you have passed the Web Certification Exam, you will be given instruction on how to access your Web space.
