Welcome & About

Since 1988, The ELI has offered short-term programs to groups of international students and educators. The ELI specializes in designing programs to fit specific curricular and scheduling needs. A short-term ELI  Program at The University of Montana typically has the following traits:

  • specially tailored to the needs of the group
  • two to eight weeks in duration
  • up to twenty hours of class per week
  • a minimum of ten participants
  • extra-curricular activities and trips
  • year-round flexibility
  • opportunities to integrate into the local community

Exploring the Issue of Global Citizenship

In 2008, we are offering a special short-term program called Exploring the Issue of Global Citizenship. Participants in this course examine what it means to be global citizens and engage in service learning, volunteerism and cross-cultural exchange. Three credits of continuing education credit are awarded. Participants will also take the TOEFL test and present at a final conference. All students with at least a low-intermediate English-language proficiency are welcome to participate.

American Culture and Language Program

This program allows students to work and play in the friendly and beautiful environment of Montana. It fosters cultural understanding through in-class activities with a diverse student population, and through real-life experiences in volunteer organizations. The program is also designed for those seeking to improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The four skills are combined in lessons so that students develop a balanced proficiency in communication.

These programs are specially designed to fit the needs of particular groups.
