Who’s Giving Now?

2014 Scholarship Luncheon Above: A donor meets a recipient at the 2014 UIS Scholarship Luncheon

John and Katie Huther moved to Illinois from upstate New York in 1973 so John could take a job at the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Katie worked at UIS (then Sangamon State), including a position as acting Vice President for University Relations.

In the evenings and on weekends, Sangamon Auditorium brought both John and Katie to UIS. They loved the Auditorium’s symphony concerts, jazz, ballet, Broadway musicals, and many other cultural experiences.

Over the years, the Huthers have generously given their financial support to UIS, especially to the Auditorium. They understood that ticket sales alone would not support the Auditorium’s diverse offerings. For many years, Katie also served as chair on the Programming Advisory Committee of the Friends of Sangamon.

The John and Catherine Huther Scholarship Fund

The Huthers will soon be relocating to Seattle, but before they leave, they have found a new way to support UIS—by creating a current-use scholarship. For each of the next two years, an Illinois community college transfer student, who is a full-time undergrad in any major and who has financial need will receive the Huthers’ scholarship.

Thank you! Even though you will be leaving Springfield behind, you are generously continuing to provide support to UIS.
