Welcome
Welcome to Tennessee Tech and the on-campus experience. As a new student, you will find most of your fellow residents will be of the same general age while representing a variety of backgrounds--from all over the state, the country, and the world. You can help us maintain a kind of environment in which everyone can live and learn effectively, so that your residence hall experience will complement your academic experience at Tennessee Tech.
Many advantages and benefits can be associated with residence hall life: educational benefits, special in-hall programming (i.e. study skills, time and stress management, and resume writing), enhanced social activities, live-in para-professional student staff, convenience to campus facilities, and academic programs. Other advantages include meeting new people, exploring opportunities, and being more involved with campus life.
Studies of college students across the nation consistently show that students who live in campus housing have higher grade-point averages and are more likely to graduate than students living at home or off-campus. At Tennessee Tech, the grade-point average of residence hall students, by academic class, has been superior to the grade-point average of non-residence hall students.
Tennessee Tech has 14 residence halls: 2 halls for men and 1 hall for women, and 11 co-ed halls, accommodating approximately 2,650 students. Rooms are designed for double occupancy; however, a few single and triple rooms are available. Rooms are furnished to include standard twin beds or loft beds and mattresses, desks, chairs, dressers, telephone, smoke detector, window shades, closets, and a wastebasket. Students may provide their own personal items to make their room more unique and comfortable. Your residence hall room will soon feel more like home after you have added your own personal touches.
Additionally, all rooms receive expanded basic cable service. All 14 residence halls are wired for ResNet (Internet) service. ResNet is short for Residence Hall Computer Network. Each of these hall rooms has a ResNet connection for each occupant, providing they have a personal computer. All residence hall students will have a voice mailbox available to them (UPON REQUEST ONLY) in conjunction with their telephone service (Call 3803 to aquire a voice mailbox). All residence halls have free laundry facilities for student use.
