The Center Stage/ Library Northern Africa: Cinema of the Maghreb film showing is this Wednesday (November 12, 2008) at 7:00pm in Room 110 of the library. The title of the film is Bab El Oued City.

About the film:
Boualem is a young man who works the graveyard shift in the Bab El-Oued district of Algiers. Shortly after the bloody riots of 1988, he commits an act which jeopardizes the entire district: Unable to stand the noise from a rooftop loudspeaker broadcasting a local fundamentalist group’s propaganda, he rips the speaker out . The extremists regard this act as deliberately provocative and aim to make an example of the culprit.
