Globalization In Social Work Lands German Students at Temple

The School of Social Administration is dedicated to societal transformations to eliminate social, political, economic injustices for poor and oppressed populations and to advancing the quality of life for all.

(Photo) On September 29, 2008 German students from the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany visited the School of Social Administration in our efforts to globalize our approach to social work. The students said that the visit overall exceeded their expectations - especially in relation to their understanding of social work in the United States.

Social Work Minor small, The New Social Work Minor

Do you want to expand your job opportunities?

The new minor is a great complement to other majors in that it offers students skills in policy analysis, communication, cultural competence, group dynamics, assessment and intervention as well as an understanding of the importance of social context.

Majors in criminal justice, psychology, education, pharmacy, and other allied disciplines should find it particularly helpful in their job searches and in their later work.

As a faculty member at a school of social work, I was excited to participate in a social work/Spanish immersion program in Costa Rica this past summer. My 19-year-old daughter, who is studying international relations in college, accompanied me. The program, cosponsored by the National Association of Social Workers - California and Norfolk State University School of Social Work, provides an opportunity for social workers, students, and others to have a comprehensive learning experience with a primary focus on Latino culture. Developing Spanish language skills and learning about Latino social issues and service delivery were the goals.
