Center for Frontier Sciences

The mission of the Center for Frontier Sciences is to globally network and exchange information on the frontier issues of science, medicine and technology. The Center is dedicated to the open and unbiased examination of theories, hypotheses, or models that challenge prevailing scientific ideas. The Center does not promote any positions, but instead encourages critical review.

In 11 years, the Center has hosted 58 lectures, nine international conferences, published two proceedings and has issued 14 volumes of its journal, Frontier Perspectives. The Center provides an international network for information sharing on the frontier issues of science, medicine and technology. The lecture series have provided local scientists with an avenue to discuss issues. By providing video copies of the lectures, the Center for Frontier Sciences is able to expand its sphere of influence.

Center for Intergenerational Learning

The Center for Intergenerational Learning began in 1979. Its primary mission is to address the social issues affecting vulnerable populations of people by fostering partnerships between organizations in the youth/family and aging networks. The goals of the Center are to:

Center for Public Health

The Center for Public Health fosters multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, educators and community practitioners to increase the quality and years of healthy life for all Americans, to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health status and to promote population health regionally and globally.

Center for Research in Human Development and Education

The Center for Research in Human Development and Education (CRHDE) was begun in 1986. The Center's primary objective is to investigate the emerging and pressing problems and life challenges facing children, youth, and families, particularly those who live in economically and educationally disadvantaged circumstances.

The Center for Research in Human Development and Education (CRHDE) is a broad-based, interdisciplinary research and development center. CRHDE researchers engage in long-term programmatic research and innovative development projects to identify and shape effective responses through far-reaching changes in institutional policies and practices that work across the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines and professional schools.

The Center for Research in Human Development and Education also houses the Laboratory for Student Success (LSS), one of ten regional educational laboratories financed by the United States Department of Education.

Center for Social Policy and Community Development

The Center for Social Policy and Community Development (CSPCD) of Temple University was established in 1969 to increase the University's responsiveness to the surrounding neighborhood. Today CSPCD’s mission is furthered by combining the social concerns of the community—strengthening its capacity to meet social, economic and educational challenges—with the service goals of the University. CSPCD develops educational and training programs, addresses public policy issues, and offers students and faculty various research opportunities.

The five major units of the CSPCD are:

Center for Sustainable Communities

The Center for Sustainable Communities at Temple University
Ambler was established in July 2000 to develop and promote new approaches to protect and preserve quality of life through sustainable development.

A working resource for government agencies, community organizations, and developers, the Center provides objective information and services to improve decision-making relative to land use and water resources planning and development. The Center conducts interdisciplinary research and offers
educational and community outreach programs.

Institute on Aging

The Institute on Aging was begun in 1978. The mission of the Institute on Aging (IOA) is to improve the quality of life of the elderly and their families through developing the capacity of the University to understand and be responsive to the problems and potential of the elderly and those who serve them. The mission is characterized by research to increase the knowledge base, transmission of the information through education programs, and the application of the knowledge.

Institute on Disabilities

Temple University's Institute on Disabilities (IOD) began in 1973 to support individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of interdependence, contribution, and inclusion. The Institute is federally authorized under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, as Pennsylvania’s University Affiliated Program (UAP). IOD’s programs work in partnership with people with disabilities, their families, advocacy organizations and service providers to provide training, technical assistance, direct services and supports, research, dissemination of information, and advocacy.

Labor Education Program

The Labor Education Program was founded in 1988 to provide education and training for trade unionists, dislocated workers and community groups.

Education and training programs are designed to assist the leaders and members of unions to function more effectively on the job and in their labor management relations. Programs for dislocated workers provide educational opportunities so that unemployed people receive the retraining needed to secure a job. The Program also develops materials for local school districts dealing with workers, their unions and the American Labor Movement.

Institute for Survey Research

Temple University’s Institute for Survey Research of has provided research services to the public and private sectors since its founding in 1967. The Institute has conducted hundreds of studies across a broad spectrum of health, population, and environmental issues working under grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.

ISR provides high quality survey research services to social science colleagues around the country, state, and region. To this end, ISR offers all research services, including study design, survey sampling, data collection and processing, creation and maintenance of databases, statistical analyses, and report writing.

Center for African American History and Culture

Begun in 1989, the Center for African American History and Culture (CAAHC) is a national research center dedicated to advancing scholarship and research in African American history and culture and to providing its rich academic resources to Temple students and faculty, visiting scholars and the greater academic community.

In addition to providing lectures and demonstrations on the use of its collections, the CAAHC offers workshops for Temple faculty and students on research methodology in African American history using the Pennsylvania black history database and the Center's collections of primary sources.

Feinstein Center for American Jewish History

Small Business Development Center

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) helps small businesses succeed and grow by offering free one-on-one business consulting and low cost training to aspiring entrepreneurs in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
