Michele M. Masucci

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) is poised to assist faculty, staff and students in their efforts to develop and manage their sponsored research projects and their obligations to conduct research in a responsible manner. Dr. Michele Masucci is proud to lead the OVPR office as the Vice Provost for Research.

This website provides access to the administrative structure connected with the Research Enterprise of the university, including the many resources available to support the faculty to implement their program of research as well as to fulfill their responsibilities with respect to the implementation of research. In addition, the website provides an overview of the internal and external sources of support for research, training opportunities to learn the basics for competing for funding, and the compliance requirements that faculty have to adhere to our guidelines for responsibly conducting research.

Bio Sketch

Michele Masucci, (Ph.D., Clark University) is a Professor of Geography and Urban Studies and the Vice Provost for Research at Temple University (TU) since 2012. In her role as the Vice Provost for Research, she oversees the research enterprise operations for the University, including research strategic, government, and development initiatives; technology transfer; business development; research integrity and compliance; grant administration; and research technical support. Throughout Dr. Masucci’s tenure in academia, her work has examined how barriers to accessing information resources using geographic information technologies are interrelated with community development and environmental quality problems, including accessing health, education, and social services. She has worked to develop university-community partnerships with organizations that address human rights issues, community and environmental planning organizations in the Southeastern U.S. and in Brazil involved in water quality monitoring and assessment, and with informal educational settings on integrating information technology curricula through educational programs aimed at advancing knowledge of to develop information resources.

Over the past twenty years, Dr. Masucci has held a variety of research leadership positions and built research enterprises that include, Director of the Information Technology and Society Research Group at Temple University, the Chair of the Department of Geography and Urban Studies in the College of Liberal Arts, Founder and Director of the BITS Program, and Co-Director of Urban Apps and Maps Studio, Step Up, and UCenParcerias.

Dr. Masucci is Temple's representative to the Federal Demonstration Partnership, where she leads the Pipelines Initiative, aimed at expanding access to STEM careers for women and underrepresented minorities. She is also Temple's representative to the Government University Industry Research Round Table (GUIRR) of the National Academies.
