2012 Junior Flower Show Theme: “H2O: How to Grow”
After enduring a wearying winter, school children across the Philadelphia region can look forward to participating in the Junior Flower Show.
The Junior Flower Show, part of EarthFest since 2004, is an annual Earth Day celebration that aims to excite kindergartners, high school seniors, and everyone in between about the wonders of nature.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Junior Flower Show creates an awareness of horticulture and the natural environment and encourages active participation of youth in growing, gardening and related activities.
The theme for the 2012 Junior Flower Show is “H2O: How to Grow.” This topic is meant for educators to further their students' understanding of the importance of water as a natural resource.
The Junior Flower Show receives numerous entries in the artistic and horticultural classes. Presentation boards are entered detailing classroom projects related to the show theme. Ribbons are awarded to Best of Show winners.
"It all comes down to giving these students a way to express themselves while discovering the beauty of the natural world,” said Flossie Narducci, Coordinator of the Junior Flower Show. "Like the Philadelphia International Flower Show, a panel of judges award ribbons, but the competition isn't the real motivator; it's the thrill of learning something new that inspires the kids and provides an outlet for their creativity!”
