  1. TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

This document must be completed and signed by the applicant.

For a printable, paper pdf version of the application, click here.
  2. I-20 APPLICATION AND FINANCIAL STATEMENT FORM (5 pages)

Complete and submit the 5 page form. The applicant will complete pages 2-4; the applicant's sponsor and sponsor's bank will complete page 5 of this form. Be sure to clearly print your PERMANENT FOREIGN ADDRESS in your home country on page 3 of this form.

** All financial documents must be original and submitted in English and U.S. Dollars.

You must provide evidence of guaranteed financial support from your sponsor to cover all of your school, living, and personal expenses and continuous health insurance for the duration of your enrollment at TCC. The F-1 financial statement must be current (no more than 6 months old). Financial support must indicate a sponsor's liquid assets. Retirement accounts (IRA's) or retirement CD's are not accepted as evidence of liquid assets. Open lines of credit are not accepted as a financial resource.

Please ensure the following:

Program of Study (page 4 of the I-20 Application form)

TCC is authorized by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program to admit F-1 students and issue the form I-20 ONLY for the academic programs listed on page 4 of the I-20 Application and Financial Statement form. Select (1) academic program from the list on page 4 of this form.

3.    TOEFL SCORE REPORT/ DEMONSTRATION OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

Overseas applicants must submit an official TOEFL score report that is sent to TCC directly from TOEFL/ETS to demonstrate sufficient English proficiency for admission to TCC as an F-1 visa student. A minimum TOEFL score of 45 ( iBT ) is required for admission to the college. An ESL placement test is required upon arrival to the college.

A TOEFL iBT score of 80 or higher will exempt applicants from having to take the TCC ESL Placement Test, but they will still be required to take TCC's placement test for college-level English upon arrival.

Change of status applicants may take TCC’s ESL Placement Test in lieu of submitting an official TOEFL score report for the purpose of admission; but again, a minimum placement into the ESL Intermediate LEVEL II is required.

** If TCC’s ESL Placement test indicates a need to strengthen your English language skills, you will need to complete the required ESL courses before enrolling in your academic program.

4.    HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR SECONDARY STUDIES FINAL

DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATE

F-1 applicants must be 18 years of age and provide a COPY of the document that indicates completion of secondary studies, i.e., high school diploma or secondary studies final certificate. Academic credentials submitted to TCC must be accompanied by an English translation. Applicants who have NOT completed secondary studies will not be accepted for English as a Second language study or academic study.

5.   CONTINUOUS HEALTH INSURANCE

(page 3 of the I-20 Application form)

All F-1 students and their dependents are required to provide proof of continuous health insurance coverage for each semester, including summer, by the last day of the add/drop week. Proof of international student health insurance that meets the minimum standards set by the ISS Office is mandatory. Students who fail to provide evidence of continuous health insurance for the entire semester, and summer, will be blocked from college transactions.

* The International Student Services Office no longer accepts health coverage from the International Student Organization (ISO). Brochures for companies that meet the ISS requirements are available at the International Student Services Office.

6.     SEVIS I-901 FEE

Once your admission to TCC is complete and an I-20 has been issued, you must pay a non-refundable SEVIS I-901 fee at least 3 days BEFORE your scheduled interview at the U.S. embassy.

For information on paying the SEVIS I-901 fee, visit the ICE website at:

http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/index.htm

7.    FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS

This school is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

F-1 visa students at Tidewater Community College may only enroll in classes required for the course of study listed on the form I-20 that are located at TCC’s four comprehensive campuses (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach) and the Visual Arts Center. (Please note: students may continue to enroll in one 3 credit online course per semester to count towards full-time enrollment.)  Enrollment in classes at any off-campus location is not permitted, and is considered to be a violation of status. There is no exception to this policy.
