EZProxy URL Library@TCC
To use links to database articles in BlackBoard you must:
Save a persistent URL. This means the URL leads the user right to the article everytime. Most TCC databases contain persistent URLs.
Do I have to modify the persistent link?
Yes/No. If the URL you copy contains "ezproxy" you shouldn't have to modify it. In the library databases find your article, look for "persistent link", "permalink", or other indication of the persistent URL. Usually, the persistent URL is NOT the URL in the address bar.
Example of Permalink in an EBSCO database: "Resistance to Reading Compliance Among College Students: Instructors' Perspectives" http://search.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.vccs.edu:2048/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=51362157&site=ehost-live
How do I modify my URL if ezproxy isn't included?
Add a prefix that will cause the proxy server to determine if the user authorized to access the database. Users be ask for their myTCC login and password. Three ways are available:
Use EZProxify Drag and Click (Does not work on TCC computers)
- Drag this EZProxify link to your IE toolbar not bookmarks.
- Find an article in a database.
- Click the EZProxify link on your toolbar.
- Shorten then copy the article's shortented link with the proxy information included.
Or, use the box below to automatically add the prefix and then save the new URL. Some URLs can be very long.
Or, type the ezproxy prefix into your saved URL. The prefix is: http://ezproxy.vccs.edu:2048/login?url=
A link to an article in the Gale Virtual Reference Library with the prefix added would look like this: http://ezproxy.vccs.edu:2048/login?url=http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?id=GALE|CX3403200311&v=2.1&u=viva2_tcc&it=r&p=GVRL&sw=w
Test your link! Some URLs can be very long. Be careful when you copy and save them and be sure the link directs your user correctly. Errors have included links to .css files (style sheets).
Can I get more help? Printed instructions (.doc) or ../../mediafiles/ezproxy.wmv or email a TCC Librarian
Why do I need EZProxy?
topBy using EZProxy in your BlackBoard classes your students have access to QUALITY library resources and only have to log in once, through BlackBoard.
Licensed databases available to our users require that we control access and restrict it to persons affliated with the VCCS. We accomplish this by using a proxy server for all off-campus access to these databases.
When you save (bookmark) a URL for use in a reading list or class assignment, that URL must also be modified so students off-campus can access the database. This page was designed to help with that modification.
