Division of Natural Sciences Disciplines
The astronomy department at the Virginia Beach Campus of Tidewater Community College has several telescopes and imaging equipment. Observation sessions are an integral part of the astronomy program. Students are required to attend a minimum number throughout the semester.
Careers requiring knowledge of living things include fields such as:
The TCC Associate of Science degree program in Science offers classes in general chemistry, health science chemistry, and organic chemistry. The courses and labs prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science and related fields.
The Hampton Roads area is dominated by numerous bodies of water from Chesapeake Bay to the smaller rivers, marshes, and swamps. Oceanography and marine science is very popular in the tidewater area.
The department stresses an empirical approach where you will get as much "hands on" experience as possible. The labs are well-equipped for introductory science courses. We also get "down and dirty" too! Most of our classes have a field trip component. The field trips provide you with the opportunity to study area beaches, borrow pits, and, if you like the water, Chesapeake Bay aboard TCC’s Research Vessel Matthew F. Maury (formally PCF-2).
Elements of Physics
