Health Professions: Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The TCC Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate in Applied Science Degree Program prepares sonographers to operate ultrasound equipment that uses sound waves to produce diagnostic images of selected body organs.

• Attend an Open House information session.  
  • 3rd Thursday of each month except December.
  • 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Regional Health Professions Center, Virginia Beach Campus, Bldg M, Room MN-121. The RHPC is located on the corner of Faculty Drive and Rosemont Road.

What is DMS?

• used to diagnose medical pathologies.
• uses high frequency sound waves to produce an image on a video monitor.
• two-dimensional gray scale image is produced when sound waves are reflected back toward the transducer from body tissues.

The curriculum provides knowledge required to

• use ultrasound equipment,
• identify cross-sectional anatomical parts, and
• identify various pathologies.
