Fiber Optic Markout Requests

Field Markouts

If a review of the Fiber Optic Cable Conduit database reveals any Fiber Optic Cable or Conduit facilities, then field markouts of the underground fiber optic network are required prior to doing any work in the vicinity of those facilities. Markouts must be requested a minimum of ten State Business Days prior to when the work is proposed and must be submitted by fully completing the Markout Form. Submit the Form to the respective office as specified below:

North: work in the counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren
South: work in the counties of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth*, Ocean, and Salem (* except for markouts on Route 9 which will be completed by Traffic Operations North)

G4S Technology LLC (formerly Adesta LLC): for work along the following sections of highways, in addition to submitting this form to the respective North or South office, you must also notify the One-Call service at 1-800-272-1000: Route 1 northbound MP 6.66 to 6.76, Route 38, MP 0.5 to 9.5, Route 42 MP 6.3 to 13.2, Route 70 MP 0.0 to 5.4, I-80 MP 54.7 to 68.3, I-95 (Mercer County) MP 1.56 to 8.77, I-195 MP 0.06 to 6.25, I-295 MP 40.6 to 67.55, Mercer County Route 579 (Bear Tavern Road) MP 2.21 to 3.11, Mercer County Route 634 (West Upper Ferry Road) MP 1.17 to 1.46, Mercer County Route 634 (Parkway Avenue) MP 1.46 to 2.67, and Intersection of Parkway Avenue (Mercer County Route 634) at Lower Ferry Road into NJDOT headquarters.

Fiber Optic Markout Request Form

An automatic response will be generated to the requestor when the Form has been received and the requestor will be notified when the markouts have been completed. The requestor is required to maintain the markouts until their work is completed. For requests that exceed one mile in length provide for an additional two days time for each additional mile of markout requested. Additional time may be required if the fiber is within the limits of an active construction project to allow for coordination with the Resident Engineer and respective contractor.

Designers are to use the as-built plans in the development of projects and request markouts only when test pits are being done in areas identified as a potential conflict. Designers should note that relocation of fiber optic cables may require a significant length of relocation to ensure proper connectivity.

Conduits

The ITS infrastructure inventory includes conduits that are labeled for future fiber use. Markout requests for these conduits may also be made to ensure these are not adversely impacted by proposed work.

Other Infrastructures

Before performing any work within NJDOT Right-of-Way areas, please contact NJDOT about anti-icing systems, traffic counting devices, weather stations, and weigh-in-motion systems.
