Management Information Systems Program
Introduction
The computer industry will be one of the fastest growing industries through the year 2014 with a projected annual job growth rate from 31 – 55 percent. Positions are available for graduates with certificates to the two year Associate of Applied Science. Also, we offer transfer opportunities for advanced degree coursework at four-year institutions.
What will I learn in class?
A comprehensive, two-year curriculum, South Suburban College's Management Information Systems (MIS) program places emphasis on instructing students “how to” on a variety of software and hardware, and providing on-the-job experience in preparation for the ever-changing technology. The program includes data base management, programming in C++, Visual Basic, Windows, and the disk operating system, UNIX/LINIX and basic introductory and advanced programming classes.
Courses are continually updated to keep abreast of technological advance, with special course electives in new areas such courses in CISCO, security, wireless data transmission, voice over IP, etc.
What is the employment outlook?
Employment opportunities are expected to increase much faster than average through the year 2014 According to the U.S. Department of Labor. The computer industry will be one of the fastest growing industries through the year 2014 with a projected annual job growth rate from 31 – 55 percent (Consult the Transfer Center for guidance in choosing the proper courses appropriate for the program in the college or university where you plan to transfer).
