BlueprintsNew Career Technology Center Planned for SCC
A special ceremony marking the beginning of construction of the new Career Technology Center at Shawnee Community College will be on Monday, August 6. The 7,200-square-foot technical classroom and lab facility will be located southwest of the main campus near the current truck driver training range.
The building will provide space to upgrade the current welding, heating and air conditioning, and sheet metal fabrication programs. The building will also allow for future career technology program expansions.
Architects from Image Architects of Carbondale designed the building and Johannes Construction of Centralia will oversee the construction. Project completion is expected in the summer of 2013, making the new Career Technology Center classroom-ready for the 2013 fall semester. The building was locally funded through a 2010 Bond Issue for building and remodeling projects.
Dr. Tim Bellamey said, "The facility will provide space to expand our career technology program and allow us to meet the job training needs of our students. The facility will also be used to provide continuing education opportunities through our Business and Industry Training Center." Bellamey will assume the leadership of SCC on August 1 as he begins his tenure as Shawnee Community College's 7th president.
Groundbreaking for the technology building will take place at 3:30 p.m. College officials would like to extend a special invitation to community members to join SCC board members, local dignitaries, faculty, staff, and students at the event.
