Welcome Transfer Students!

Students transfer to Queensborough for various reasons –our excellent programs of study, our very accessible and highly credentialed faculty, and our strong focus on you – our student. Please review the information presented in this section, designed just for our incoming transfer students. If you have additional questions, please email us at Transfers@qcc.cuny.edu.

TRANSFER CREDIT

The College will grant transfer credit for most courses completed with satisfactory grades at an accredited post-secondary institution. (Grades of “C” for non-CUNY colleges, and grades of “D” from CUNY colleges are accepted.) Your credits will be evaluated and posted to your record. If a course is not part of your intended program of study, you may be given this credit as an “elective.” If a course needs further evaluation, you will be referred to the appropriate academic department.

CUNY students: If you are transferring from other CUNY institutions, you may visit the CUNY online Transfer Information and Program Planning System (TIPPS) at www.tipps.cuny.edu. This system is continuously updated and enhanced. If course equivalents are not available, please submit course descriptions so that additional evaluation of a specific course(s) can be considered.

Non-CUNY students: you may obtain course descriptions from any former College/University by visiting your former college website or by using a search engine on the Internet, like GOOGLE.COM.

No credit is given for any coursework taken at a non-accredited college or post-secondary institution. To find out if a particular school is accredited, go to www.highered.nysed.gov and go to Accreditation.

The maximum number of credits that can transfer to an associate degree program is 30; no more than 15 credits may be accepted toward one of the College’s certificate programs. The Registrar's Office will evaluate course equivalencies wherever possible. Some courses may not be transferable. Other courses may not have QCC equivalents and transfer as blanket credits within a discipline. You will receive an official evaluation of credits accepted prior to your date for academic advisement.

NOW TAKING COLLEGE COURSES? Students who have not yet earned college credit from other institutions, and are currently taking one or more college courses, will be admitted on the same basis as Freshmen. College transcripts will be reviewed when final grades are received, and a determination of the admissions status (freshmen or transfer) will then be made. Should the GPA from these courses not meet the College’s academic standard (2.0 minimum GPA), the student may be placed on probation. (See above.)

NOTE: Admission to the Nursing program

Admission to the Nursing program is extremely competitive. A minimum GPA of 3.00 in a specific pre-Clinical sequence is required in order to be considered for admission. The pre-clinical sequences includes English 101, Sociology, Psychology, and Anatomy & Physiology. If completed elsewhere, these courses cannot be repeated at Queensborough. In addition to the successful completion of the pre-clinical sequences, candidates to the Nursing program must complete the RN PAX exam. For more information, consult the college catalog page 102.
