Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
Campus Specific Information:
The Department of Social Sciences at Queensborough Community College houses eight disciplines with 28 full-time faculty members. We offer an Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education (a Dual/Joint A.S./B.A. Degree Program in conjunction with Queens College) and an Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree in Criminal Justice (a Dual/Joint A.S./B.A. Degree Program in conjunction with John Jay College of Criminal Justice). For more information see http://www.qcc.cuny.edu/SocialSciences.
Teach Sociology courses, including introductory sociology and electives. Participate in Departmental and College activities including committees, curriculum development, and preparation of grants. Provide academic support and advisement for students. For faculty in Assistant Professor rank, continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required.
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor designations:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For Instructor designation:
A Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For Instructor, an ABD in Sociology is strongly preferred; for Assistant Professor, a doctorate in Sociology is required. Preference will be given to applicants with college level teaching experience in Sociology. A record of research/publication in Sociology is strongly preferred. Experience with use of instructional technology and student-centered pedagogy is preferred. Experience working with diverse populations is preferred
