Two new financial aid programs are now available to low-income college students who are eligible for Federal Pell Grants – the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and the National SMART Grant.
The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is available to first- and second-year college students who are Pell-eligible (based on data provided on the 2007-08 Federal Application for Student Financial Aid), are U.S. citizens, and are enrolled full time at a two- or four-year degree-granting institution of higher education. ACG awards are up to $750 for first-year students and $1,300 for second-year students. Click here to find out more about the ACG:
The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grants, also known as National SMART Grants, are available during the third and fourth years of undergraduate study to full-time students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and who are majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign language determined critical to national security. Students must also maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in coursework required for the major.
