In 2010, the Town of Oakville received the Prince of Wales Prize for municipal heritage leadership from the Heritage Canada Foundation. This prestigious prize was established in 1999 under the patronage of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales. The prize is awarded each year to a Canadian municipality that demonstrates a strong and sustained commitment to the conservation of its heritage.
Heritage planning staff, as well as the Heritage Oakville Committee, promote heritage conservation through the documentation and protection of heritage sites and the implementation of policies to help guide change to these properties and areas.
