As a result of recent legislation, individuals considered to have “business dealings with the City” are subject to lower campaign contribution limits and their campaign contributions are no longer matchable with public funds. The doing business contribution limits are:
Mayor/Public Advocate/Comptroller = $400
Borough President = $320
City Council = $250
These limits apply to both monetary and in-kind contributions and apply to both participants and non-participants.
Any entity that purchases or acquires city owned land, applies for an affordable housing loan or grant, requests a discretionary tax benefit, applies for a low income housing tax credit or requests an inclusionary housing agreement is considered to be doing business with the City. For answers to questions regarding these rules, visit the Frequently Asked Questions for Affordable Housing. You can also visit the City’s Doing Business Database to see if someone is doing business. For a copy of the Doing Business Form, please click here.
