I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979. It is humbling to be on faculty at the institution where you earned your first professional degree. UVa will always hold a special place in my heart as I'm sure it does in the hearts of all of its alumni.

Kathy graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979. After working for a year in general surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital, she was lured to cardiology and began working in the Coronary Care Unit at Washington Hospital Center. During this time she earned her Masters degree in Cardiovascular Nursing at Catholic University of America. She returned to the University of Virginia and has worked at the School of Nursing and the Health Sciences Center since 1983. Positions have included: SON faculty 1983-1985, Senior Clinician Medical Cardiology 1985-1986, and Angioplasty Nurse Coordinator 1985-1993. Since 1993 she has been on faculty with the SON. In 2005 she earned her PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her passion in nursing continues to be cardiology; she enjoys maintaining patient contact and clinical skills as she works with the students and staff nurses in medical cardiology clinicals.
