Information for School of Nursing Alumni & Friends

The School of Nursing proudly counts as alumni nearly 9,000 living graduates worldwide who hold a degree, diploma, or certificate of program completion from the School. Our first graduates received diplomas from the University of Virginia Hospital School of Nursing in 1903, long before women were admitted to the College. By the late 1960s all graduates were receiving baccalaureate degrees. Today, our alumni represent a wide variety of degrees, certificates, and specialties.

U.Va. Nursing alumni are highly loyal to the School, and they maintain close relationships with the School and with each other. Graduates automatically become members of the Nursing Alumni Association (no dues are required) which works hand-in-hand with the School of Nursing Alumni & Development Office.

Get Involved with the Nursing Alumni Association

• The Nursing Alumni Council leads the Association - consider volunteering for one of the Council's standing committees
• Nominate a deserving alum for an Alumni Association award
• Serve as a Class Advocate or Reunion Representative
• Host a ' Hoos Coming to Dinner event
• Attend School or Alumni Association events
• Learn about the Grier Medical Assistance Fund which helps alumni with uncovered health care expenses

Support the School of Nursing

• Make a gift of any size to support our amazing faculty and students - participation is what counts!
• Volunteer your time and expertise - connect with students, speak on panels or in classes, advise the Dean, help with fundraising
