The Mary Morton Parsons Clinical Simulation Learning Center (CSLC) provides students and healthcare professionals an environment to learn and practice with limited consequence and immediate feedback.
The CSLC is located on the 3rd floor of McLeod Hall at the University of Virginia School of Nursing. Renovation and expansion of the CSLC was completed in December 2012. The newly renovated space (9200 Sq Ft), which emulates a hospital unit, includes:
“Point-of-Learning” is integral to the philosophy of the center as evidenced by individualized stations complete with computers, cameras and dedicated resources for the education process. Additionally, the new space incorporates the use of high-fidelity simulation resources and standardized patients for active-learning.
The CLSC will provide students and healthcare providers broad access to the practice environment, directly at the point of learning. Students can immediately apply concepts, skills, and behaviors acquired in classroom and clinical practice.
The CSLC was established in 1990 to help manage the advances and changes driven by programming demands within UVA School of Nursing. The expansion of the CSLC was driven by:

Rooms 3007 & 3019
Conference rooms for staging and debriefing of simulations. The audio-visuals provide opportunities for live-streaming of simulations in progress and during debriefing exercises.
The Charles L. Reed Physical Assessment Laboratory is an eight-bed unit. This lab is dedicated in honor of Mr. Charles L. Reed, the former president of the Theresa A. Thomas Memorial Foundation.
Peds and Women’s Simulation Suite is a three-bed unit which facilitates hands-on experience with the birthing process as well as provision of care for pediatric clients.
Virtual Reality unit offers participation in computerized patient cases and realism for documentation.
Rooms 3026 & 3038
Two eight-bed clinical education suites offer a patient isolation room for group learning.
The Theresa A. Thomas Intensive Care Simulation Laboratory is a two-bed unit. It is available to assist undergraduate and graduate students in learning how to manage acute or critical care situations. The simulation manikins, such as Sim-Man®, are major features of this unit.
Requests for resources and lab reservations should be directed to the CSLC Coordinator ( email@example.com) at least 5 to 7 days in advance. Requisition forms are available electronically via the “I:CSLC” directory).
Food and drinks are not permitted in the CSLC. This policy is reflective of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines and should be strictly reinforced by faculty due to safety and preservation of resources.
