Sandy Rodriguez accepts the Illinois Community College System Foundation for Illinois Health Improvement Association Scholarship from Richard Vavra, Morton College Foundation President.

The Community College System of Illinois wishes to assist students pursuing a career in the much needed area of health care. As a result, the Illinois Community College System Foundation for Illinois Health Improvement Association Scholarship was created.

This year’s recipient, Sandy Rodriguez, wants to enter the nursing profession. She witnessed the pain and suffering her father experienced after being misdiagnosed. Rodriguez wishes she could do something to alleviate her father’s suffering.

Rodriguez’s grades at Morton College are excellent – a 3.69 grade-point average with a heavy concentration of science courses. Instructors describe Rodriguez as a “take-charge person…who recognizes the importance of intellectual integrity.”

Through her church, Rodriguez volunteers at the Greater Chicago Food Depository and at the Central States SER where she assists under-privileged youths learn job skills.
