The mission of the Center for Women’s Development is to provide direct services, support and programming for women students by:
- Offering specialized services that support personal development
- Assist students to address issues affecting self-actualization and quality of life
- Actively engaging the college, university and community in proactively addressing issues faced by women students,
- Promote equal access to higher education through institutionalized support, including counseling, advocacy, referrals, and development and implementation of education forums and events
All are Welcome!
Although its focus is women, the Center is open to ALL with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.

PROGRAMMING
WORKSHOPS:
- Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention
- Sexual Harassment
- Women’s Leadership
- Personal Development
PROGRAMS:
- Role Model Program – co-sponsored by the NY Coalition of 100 Black Women – offers scholarships and matches selected high-achieving students with professional women for an intensive mentoring experience
- Gender-Specific/ All Women’s Freshman Seminar Class
- S.H.A.D.E.S. (Sisiters Having a Definite excellence Strategy) – Student Club devoted to women’s empowerment through service and leadership
- Upsilon Theta Pi Academic Honor Society - an all women’s society for students who have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5, and have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and community service.
- Women of Distinction – students whose work and involvement at the College are exemplary are nominated by the Academic Deans of the three schools to be honored as Women of Distinction.

As Director, Kareen Odate is responsible for the supervision of the Center’s social workers, advocates, administrative assistants, interns and volunteers. As a counselor and advisor, her focus areas include Rape Crisis Counseling; Domestic Violence; Sexual Harassment; Conflict Mediation & Resolution; Bereavement Counseling; Referrals for Men who Batter; Multicultural Counseling; Women’s Health Group facilitation; and Human Sexuality.
Ms. Odate also co-teaches the Women Gender Specific Freshman Seminar Course and Women’s Health and Wellness.
