Medgar Evers College is firmly committed to the spirit and letter of all federal, state and local laws regarding equal opportunity and affirmative action.  The College believes that it must continue to ensure that members of “protected classes” are represented at all levels of the workforce.  To this end, the College has developed an Affirmative Action Program aimed at promoting the full utilization of protected class members in all facets of the College as a part of its wider effort to promote pluralism and diversity on campus.  An integral part of the Program is the development and submission of an annual comprehensive Affirmative Action Plan, which identifies the College’s policies and describes the procedures used to implement the Program.

The Plan includes various analyses of the College’s workforce, used to identify (1) underutilization of women and minorities in departments and units of the College, and (2) possible adverse impact of the College’s personnel activities (recruitment, selections, tenure, upgrades, transfers and terminations) on the employment, advancement and retention of women and minority employees in the workforce.  The results of these annual analyses are used to help the College evaluate its progress in achieving its goal to maintain a diverse workforce with equal access and opportunity for all employees.  The administrative officers of the College, led by President William L. Pollard, fully support the objectives of the Program and demonstrate their commitment by implementing policies and practices designed to ensure affirmative action, equal opportunity and workforce diversity at the College.
