About the Student Center...
The Memorial Student Center exists as a living memorial to those killed in the November 14, 1970 plane crash. The Student Center maintains a continuing goal of providing facilities, services, conveniences and amenities to enhance life for our University community. The MSC Operations Office is responsible for business operations in the Student Center and for the implementation of several contract operations, including campus-wide vending contracts and an ATM contract with a campus banking component.
Opened in 1971, the Memorial Student Center underwent major renovation during 1997-98 culminating in the opening of a 7,000 square foot wing on the west end of the building to house the university bookstore. In addition to the Bookstore, the Memorial Student Center also houses a Recreation Area, several dining areas and a Catering Office, student service related offices, the Marshall University ID Office, an Electronic Post Office, and numerous rooms that can be scheduled for meetings and conferences. Follow the links in the navigation bar at the left to learn more about these areas.
The Memorial Student Center Management Office is located in suite 2W6. The hours for the office are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Business Manager, William "Tootie" Carter, reports to the Senior Vice-President for Administration.
Facility use and scheduling information is available through the Facilities Scheduling Office, located in room 2W17 of the Student Center. Further information, including room sizes, capacities, and layout options is available by clicking the " Facilities Scheduling" button on the navigation bar.
About the Student Center Fountain...
The Marshall fountain reminds us of the lives that were taken on the night of November 14, 1970. The community lost its football team, coaches, and many community athletic boosters. The fountain, weighing 6,500 pounds and standing 13 feet high, was designed by artist and sculptor Harry Bertoia. The fountain was dedicated to the Marshall community by Marshall's President, John G. Barker, on November 12, 1972.
The fountain form speaks of continuation, perpetuation, in short, of life... "The living rather than commemorating death itself in the waters of life, rising, renewing, reaching to express, upward growth, immortality, eternality." (Harry Bertoia)
A commemorative ceremony is held each year on the Memorial Student Center plaza in remembrance of those lost to the University and the community.
Multi-Purpose Facility Now Open!
The Memorial Student Center has renovated part of the lower level and opened a new multi-purpose facility. Suitable for meetings, banquets, wedding receptions, job fairs, conferences and lectures, to name just a few, this facility is open to use by Marshall University departments or organizations, and to the general public. The main facility (BE-5) is a 4,000 square foot room suitable for groups up to 250 persons. It boasts state of the art technology including smart classroom capabilities, a mulitmedia podium, wired ethernet network connection at the podium, wireless networking thoughout the room, 5 high definition projection systems, a 52" LCD television in the foyer that can be synced with the video feed from the main room, and programmable lighting that can be dimmed by remote control.
A separate reception area, complete with seating and a coat room, serves as a foyer to the main room. A secondary "break-out" or small conference room (BE-4) opens off the foyer and offers additional meeting space or can be used for event staging by groups using the main room.BA4H3710 @488p

Computer Lab on lower level...
In a partnership between Student Center Operations and University Computing Services, a new computer lab is now open in the Memorial Student Center. Located on the lower level of the building, this lab contains 20 computer stations as well as a print station. These state-of-the-art computers are identical to those found in the Drinko Library 24 Hour Study Center which is managed and operated by University Computing Services. The computers provide the full complement of academic and research software found in other University Computing Facility Sites (UCF Sites) operated by University Computing Services. The Memorial Student Center's extended hours make this an ideal location for the expansion of access to computers for student use.
Computer Lab Hours:*

8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
