EZ-Borrow FAQ

Why has the EZBorrow search page changed?
PALCI has recently made some changes to EZBorrow. The first thing you will notice once you log into the new EZBorrow page is that you no longer are asked to choose a group when searching for a material. Now, EZBorrow will be searching ALL of our partner libraries at the same time, making your experience easier and faster. When your search results load, you will notice that you can select items even while the search page is loading.
The item screen is also different. Now, when you come across an item that isn’t available for request or is available here at Marshall, EZBorrow will let you know, providing links to IDS/ILL if the item isn’t available, or links to our library catalog if we own it.
Since these changes are new, we expect that you will occasionally find things that you’d like to see changed or fixed, so let us know. Contact us at ezborrow@marshall.edu or call or stop by the Drinko Circulation Desk for assistance.
What is EZ-Borrow?
Search and borrow books and music scores directly from 50 academic libraries in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey simultaneously. Your requested items will arrive usually within 3-5 business days. You will be notified via email when the book or score is available for you to check out at the Drinko Library Circulation Desk or MUSC Library.
What if I can't find my book?
If an item you search for cannot be found in the EZBorrow system, simply log into Information Delivery Services and place a request from there.
Occasionally you will find an item in EZBorrow, that simply is not available for checkout. In this case, a message should show up in the middle of the screen, directing you to the IDS/ILL login page via a link. Simply follow the link and request the item by filling out the appropriate request form and the item’s citation info (you can always check websites like Amazon.com for a title’s citation info if you don’t have it handy).
If you receive an error message of any sort, contact our EZBorrow staff at ezborrow@marshall.edu or call or stop by the Drinko Circulation Desk for assistance.
What is the check-out period for EZ-Borrow books?
You can borrow items for 6 weeks. This applies to all Marshall University students, faculty and staff.
Can I renew EZ-Borrow books?
Yes. Renewing lets you keep the books for 6 weeks from the day they are renewed. To renew, login to My Library Account. You can only renew once.
Is EZ-Borrow free?
Yes. However, if you don't pick up your E-Z Borrow book within 10 days of arrival, you will be fined $5 per book. The book will be mailed back to the lending library. This fee is necessary to recoup shipping costs for frivolous requests. Overdue fines are $1 per book, per day.
What's the difference between EZ-Borrow and Information Delivery Services (IDS)?
What can I request?    What libraries can I request from?    How long does it usually take?    Where do I pick up and return items?
EZ-Borrow:    Books    More than 50 WV, PA, & NJ academic libraries    3-5 business days    Drinko Library or MUGC Library Circulation desks
Information Delivery Services:    Books & Articles    Libraries nationwide    Books: 10-20 business days
Articles: 3-5 business days    Drinko, MUSC, or HSL Circulation desks

I am a Distance Student. Can I use EZ-Borrow?
Yes. However, books will not be mailed to your home address if requested through E-Z Borrow. When you make your request, you choose to pick up E-Z Borrow books either at the Drinko Library or MUSC (Marshall University South Charleston) Library.
If you do not live near either library, and you are a Distance Student as defined by the Marshall University Libraries, then you should use Information Delivery Services to have Interlibrary Loan books mailed to you. Information Delivery Services will mail books and other items - owned by the MU Libraries or other libraries - to your home address if you are Distance Student.
Can I Remove the band around the book?
No. The band is needed in order to accurately track the book. If you lose the band, you will be charged $1.
How will I be notified when the book is available?
You will receive three emails:
  1. We received your request and are processing your order.
  2. Your book was shipped by the lending library to Marshall University Libraries. We should receive it in 3 to 5 weekdays.
  3. Your book has arrived (either the Drinko Library or MUSC Library) and is ready for you to pickup.
I ordered a book through EZ-Borrow. When will it arrive?
Books should arrive within 3 to 5 weekdays.
What happens if I don't pick up my book right away?
If you don't pick up your EZ-Borrow book within 10 days, you will be fined $5 per book, and the book will be mailed back to the lending library.
Who can use EZ-Borrow?
EZ-Borrow is only available to current Marshall University students, faculty, and staff. Unfortunately, alumni and community patrons are not eligible to use E-Z Borrow.
Is EZ-Borrow available off-campus?
Yes. You can access E-Z Borrow by entering your MUID.
I lost an EZ-Borrow book. Can I buy a new one and give it to the Libraries?
No. We do not accept replacement copies for lost E-Z Borrow books. This is a PALCI policy. Patrons will have to pay for any lost E-Z Borrow items (the invoiced amount plus our processing fee). Contact the Drinko Library Circulation Desk or the MUSC Library if you lost your E-Z Borrow item.
I Logged Into EZBorrow and Found the Book I Want, but When I Went to Request it, I Got an Error Message.
This most commonly happens when your 901# has been entered incorrectly. Simply go back to the login page, reenter your 901# and try again.

If the problem persists after reentering your 901#, please contact our EZBorrow staff at ezborrow@marshall.edu or call or stop by the Drinko Circulation Desk for assistance.

How fast are EZ-Borrow searches?
Title, Author, and ISBN searches are fast. Subject searches can take up to two minutes before getting results..
