Undergraduate and Graduate Programs

Undergraduate majors may choose from two degree programs of study. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with a specialization in music, leads to Pre-K – Adult music certification in West Virginia. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a music major, is designed to prepare students for entry into professional musical careers in performance, composition, jazz studies, or graduate school. A Minor in Music offers students majoring in another discipline an opportunity for further study and growth toward an enriched avocation.

The Master of Arts in Music degree offers graduate students the option of studying Music Education, Music History and Literature, Music Performance or Composition as areas of emphasis. Music Education and History have thesis and non-thesis options.

Admittance into these degree programs is based on an audition and interview with area faculty. Students can arrange an interview by contacting the Department of Music office. Additional information regarding Department of Music policies, procedures and requirements can be found in the Music Student Handbook.
