A Message from the Dean
dean Kenneth Randall
Dean and Thomas E. McMillan Professor of Law
Our law school will provide you with a firm foundation for however and wherever you decide to use your law degree. Our low student-to-faculty ratio and our rich course offerings help to ensure that you have a personalized educational experience here. You will be a part of a friendly and energetic atmosphere. You will have professors who publish and teach in cutting-edge fields. You will be in classrooms where excellent teaching is emphasized and valued. You will be among students who are thoroughly engaged in their legal education, yet collaborate with and support their classmates. You will be in a place where student groups invigorate the atmosphere through speakers and activities which involve diversity of thought and which emphasize service to the community. You will be a part of a Law School that is uniquely student-centered.
Tuition at Alabama has remained reasonable. During law school, Alabama students do not encumber burdensome student debt – debt that can dictate what new graduates might do with their law degrees. Students do not have to fear that huge loans will keep them from taking jobs in the government sector or with public interest groups.
For more than 135 years, Alabama Law has produced attorneys who become leaders locally, nationally, and globally. Our alumni serve as the living proof of our success. Whether you decide to become corporate counsel at a Fortune 500 company, a transactional lawyer with an international law firm, or a public defender in a small town, you will be among the outstanding attorneys who are alumni of The University of Alabama School of Law. These graduates are doing more than practicing law – they are shaping the future.
By any measure, Alabama is a strong law school. It is often listed as a “best value” in legal education and is ranked among the top publicly funded law schools in the country.
