Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Q.  What is the Kingsborough Community College Foundation?
/sub-administration/collAdvancement/Pages/DonateNow.aspx

The Kingsborough Community College Foundation is the tax exempt 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization through which individuals, foundations and corporations can make tax exempt gifts to benefit our students, faculty and college. It is governed by an independent Board of Trustees elected on a rotating basis. The KCC Foundation Board of Trustees represent the commercial, financial, publishing, philanthropic, utilities, legal, real estate, health care, community development, and public relations industries of New York City. In addition, the board members are representative of our alumni, faculty, and administration.

Q.  I want to make a gift.  How can I give? Whom do I call? Where do I mail my check?

You have a number of options.  You may make your gift:

Online: Our secure
online gift form allows you to make an immediate gift using a credit card.

Phone: If you prefer to phone in your donation, please call 718-368-4539 .

Mail: Or, if you prefer to make your gift by mail, please send your check made payable to the Kingsborough Community College Foundation.  Please include a note with instructions for directing your gift to ensure that it is properly credited or download and print the Donate Form (available online) and send the completed form with your check. Checks should be mailed to:

Kingsborough Community College Foundation
2001 Oriental Boulevard, Room M243
Brooklyn, New York 11235

The Kingsborough Community College Foundation also accepts gifts by wire transfer, as well as gifts of securities.  For more information, contact
Dean Elizabeth Basile.

For questions regarding gifts not included above, or for more information, please contact us.

Q.  How will you use my unrestricted gift?

Annual fund gifts of all sizes, particularly unrestricted donations, are one way of providing critical support for the KCC Foundation.  These gifts enable the Foundation to use the funds for its greatest immediate needs.

Q.  Can I restrict my gift to a specific purpose (make a restricted gift)?

Yes. Many alumni and friends designate their gifts for purposes or programs that are particularly meaningful to them. Please visit the Ways to Give Page to view gift opportunities.

Q.  What credit cards do you accept online?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Amex and Diner’s Club.

Q.  Is there a limit to how much (or little) I can give online?

There is no limit to how much (or little) you can give online.

Q.  What is a Matching Gift?  How do I get my company to match my gift?

A matching gift is a great way for a donor to increase his or her contribution to the Kingsborough Community College Foundation. Matching gifts are provided by a donor’s employer (or his/her spouse’s employer) to a nonprofit organization in an equal or greater amount to the donor’s gift. Companies have various methods by which they can submit their matching gift requests to the KCC Foundation. These include: paper forms; online forms (which the donor can print from the internet); and phone verification systems. The Benefits or Human Resources Office of the donor's employer (or the donor's spouse's employer) will be able to provide necessary information on the company's Matching Gift Program and the method the company uses to process matching requests.

Q.  How will my gift be acknowledged?

All donors receive a formal, personalized acknowledgement letter from President Regina S. Peruggi. In addition, you will be recognized in the College’s Annual Report.

Q.  Can I donate anonymously?

Yes. Please let us know if you wish to give anonymously.

Q.  Is my gift tax-deductible?

The Kingsborough Community College Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  All gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You should consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift.

Q.  What is the KCC Foundation Annual Fund?

The KCC Annual Fund is a crucial source of funding that allows the KCC Foundation to meet its most pressing needs. Annual Fund mailings take place each fall.

Q.  How can I make a gift in honor of my parents, child, or other friend or family member?

A gift to the Kingsborough Community College Foundation in honor of a loved one is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a person who valued KCC. Please indicate on your donation form whether you are making your gift in honor or in memory of a specific person. When making a gift over the phone, please simply tell our representative the name of the person in whose honor or memory you are making your donation. If you are making your gift online, select the box that says, "This Gift is in Honor/Memory Of Someone Special" and proceed to fill out the requested information.

Q.  What Is An Endowment?

An endowment is an investment in the future of the Kingsborough Community College Foundation. When you use your charitable gift to establish an endowment, the gift is invested to provide spendable income for whatever specific purpose you have designated. The original principal (or gift) is never spent, and any investment return over allowed spending and fees is channeled back into the fund to keep it healthy and growing. Depending on what you intend your endowment to support, certain minimum endowment requirements apply. For information regarding establishing an Endowment Fund, please contact Dean Elizabeth Basile.

Q.  I would like to remember the Kingsborough Community College Foundation in my will. What language should I use in my will or trust?

Please contact the Office of College Advancement to discuss the wording of your bequest language. This will insure that the KCC Foundation will be able to use the gift as you intend.  Please consult your tax attorney or financial advisor for more information.

Q.  If I include the Kingsborough Community College Foundation in my will, whom do I need to tell about it?

Once you complete your estate plan, please inform the Office of College Advancement. We would like to thank you for your generosity by inviting you to join The Beacon Society, our honorary society for alumni and friends of Kingsborough who have included the College in their estate planning. Your membership involves no dues, obligations or solicitations, but it does allow us to thank you and recognize you for the plans you have made, and it may inspire generosity in others.

Q.  What are the tax advantages of life income gifts and bequests?

Tax advantages will depend upon your unique financial situation. If you would like to learn more, please contact the
Office of College Advancement. You should also contact your tax attorney or financial advisor for more information.

Q.  Will I need a tax advisor when I set up a planned gift?

Though the Office of College Advancement can help you set up your gift, most estate-plan gifts will require the assistance of a professional financial or tax advisor.
