The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism welcomed its first class in the fall of 2006.
Our program is rigorous, taught by outstanding faculty in our new, state-of-the-art facilities in Times Square.
Students are on a three-semester program that leads to the M.A. degree in journalism. (They graduate in December.) While some may elect to take a few classes that emphasize a specific media track—print, broadcast or online journalism—all students learn about the story-telling methods and technology methods of each, with an emphasis on convergence. Students also choose a reporting specialization: urban affairs, business/economics, health/science, arts/culture or international reporting.
The curriculum includes a requirement that students complete a full-time summer internship, in New York City or elsewhere. (International-concentration students go abroad.) Students may also do part-time internships during the academic year as their schedules permit.
Every fall the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism holds a job fair where employers can conduct job interviews (with our graduating students) and internship interviews (with our first-semester students). Because we can’t accommodate all interested employers at the annual fall job fair, we encourage you to contact us about individual, on-campus recruiting days or informational sessions.
