Peter Carey, executive director of Hunter’s MFA in Creative Writing, was named an Officer of the Order of Australia by Queen Elizabeth II during her Birthday Honors in June. The title was bestowed in recognition of his “distinguished service to literature as a novelist,” as well as for promoting Australian identity and for serving as a mentor to emerging writers.

Carey’s latest novel is The Chemistry of Tears.
