Long Term Care
You are eligible to enroll in the Commonwealth of Virginia Voluntary Group Long Term Care Insurance Program if:
-
You work at least 20 hours a week for a state agency, public college or university;
-
You are employed by a political subdivision or school division that has elected to offer the program;
-
You are a deferred member. You are a deferred member if you have left but not retired from covered employment and have not taken a refund of your retirement contributions and interest in your member contribution account.
-
Close and have at least five years of service credit; or
-
You are retired and receiving a VRS benefit.
In addition to enrolling yourself, you can include your spouse, adult children, parents, parents-in-law, step parents, step parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, step grandparents and step grandparents-in-law who are between the ages of 18 and 79. Most of us don’t think about long-term care as a part of long-range financial or retirement planning. But most medical insurance plans don’t cover long-term care services such as nursing home care or at-home care to assist with bathing, eating or other activities of daily living. The Voluntary Long-Term Care Program helps with these costs, which could quickly deplete savings and retirement income.
VRS has contracted with Genworth Life Insurance Company to help administer the Voluntary Group Long Term Care Insurance Program.
VSDP members are covered by a Basic Long Term Care Policy at no additional cost.
This long-term care insurance plan is overseen by the state's Department of Human Resource Management.
