HOSTOS STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS AT
YANKEE STADIUM

Thursday, July 19, 2012 - On July 15, four Hostos Community College students each received $1,000 scholarships from the New York Yankees as part of the annual Bronx Dominican Parade scholarship awards program.

Gretcher Hernández, Manuel Mercedes, Yandry Tavera and Nguyen Rivera were publicly acknowledged on the field at Yankee Stadium for their outstanding academic achievement and service to the Dominican community.

Associate Dean for Community Relations at Hostos, Ana García Reyes, said she was happy the students received their awards on such a grand stage.

“It was wonderful to see the joy in the students faces as their names were called and applauded by the thousands of fans that attended the game at the Yankee Stadium. These scholarships help them to finance their studies and the Hostos family is deeply thankful to the Bronx Dominican Parade, Inc. and the Yankees for their incredible support.”

The students will also participate in the Dominican Day Parade taking place at noon on Sunday, July 29. The parade runs south on Grand Concourse Blvd. from E. Tremont Ave. to E. 167th Street, steps away from Yankee Stadium.

The public is invited to see our CUNY students marching along the concourse on the CUNY float.
