International Students
For generations, GW has welcomed international and exchange students to our campuses and to Washington, D.C., one of the world’s great capital cities. Today, we enjoy a truly international community of more than 2,100 outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from over 100 countries.
Well before international students arrive on campus, GW’s International Services Office helps them obtain visas and assists with other immigration processing so they can take full advantage of all opportunities available to them while in the United States, including relevant work experiences during and after their studies. The International Services Office also provides orientation and advises students about the University's academic expectations, support services and other programs that both facilitate and enrich learning, including English conversation groups and workshops on topics such as employment, taxes and academic success.
GW invites international undergraduates to participate in Semester in Washington, a program with tracks in government and media, each designed for visiting students spending a semester at GW. To experience GW before they apply, international students can also take part in our Summer Scholars program. The program offers high school-age students a chance to learn—alongside GW undergraduates—from GW professors, to take advantage of all University facilities and resources and to explore the culture of Washington, D.C.
