D.C. as a Resource
The George Washington University’s privileged location in the heart of the nation’s capital offers students and faculty members unparalleled opportunities to engage directly with policymakers, researchers and leaders in a wide range of fields. Based four blocks from the White House, at the center of politics, policy, law and research, GW enjoys an array of partnerships with top governmental, scientific and international agencies and institutions throughout the city.
Our graduate students work alongside America’s foremost scientists at the National Institutes of Health to find cures for diseases affecting the lives of millions. GW students serve as interns and research assistants at many other leading Washington-based scientific agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Foundation and NASA. At GW’s National Crash Analysis Center, a partnership with government and industry, researchers are striving to improve safety on the nation’s roadways and around the globe. Cutting-edge genomics research at our medical center, in collaboration with our partner institutions, will ultimately provide physicians with the ability to customize medical treatment for patients. GW’s 36-year collaboration with the Children’s National Medical Center is thriving, benefiting GW medical students and expanding opportunities for medical research.
On the liberal arts front, GW undergraduates enjoy one-of-a-kind access to one of the world’s premier independent research institutions, the prestigious Folger Shakespeare Library, through classes and research opportunities. Students in our Columbian College of Arts and Sciences benefit in myriad ways from the University’s long relationship with the Smithsonian Institution.
