Summer in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. offers an unparalleled mix of intellectual and cultural resources that makes for a vibrant city classroom experience. This cosmopolitan city is headquarters to national and international organizations, embassies, and cultural institutions that create a wealth of public programs, exhibits and special events. GW Pre-College students have the opportunity to visit the Smithsonian and other world class museums, galleries, theaters, national and historic landmarks, and government sites such as the White House, Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists every evening—for free!

Summer concerts are on many street corners and even at the National Zoo. Historic Union Station is a magnificent gathering spot and its marble corridors are lined with two stories of boutiques, restaurants and a movie theater. Students enjoy trips to Georgetown, Eastern Market, and the diverse U Street District and Adams Morgan. Whether you’re paddling on the Potomac, jogging through Rock Creek Park, watching movies under the stars on the National Mall or experiencing the cultural extravaganza of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, you will enjoy a summer that can only be found in Washington, D.C.
