CONNECTING WHAT MATTERS

Study Abroad Overview

"Studying abroad is an essential part of a university education. In addition to building skills that enhance employment prospects, studying abroad extends learning beyond the classroom and campus. Students gain in-depth knowledge of other cultures, customs, languages, and people. Study abroad is a life-changing experience that helps students mature emotionally and intellectually."

– Dr. Dwight Call, Assistant Vice President for International Education, Georgia College

Maymester and Summer Programs
Maymester and summer programs combine classroom instruction with an international context that offers a rich background for discussion and intercultural experiences. Georgia students are taught by Georgia faculty in locations all around the world in programs lasting three to five weeks.

Semester and Year Study Abroad and Exchange Programs
The semester and academic year study abroad and exchange programs offer students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture and possibly a foreign language. Possibilities exist in more than 30 countries and in virtually every discipline. It is a great way to meet new diverse people, learn a language, or support your resume!

Apply Early
The International Education Center will help you research your options and find the right program for you. To guarantee space availability, apply well before going abroad. In addition to submitting your program application, you need to also register for study abroad classes through Georgia College, where you will receive credit for the classes taken.

Our Staff will Help
Our staff will assist with pre-departure preparations and provide an orientation, including program itinerary, course content, cross-cultural communication skills and other important information. All Georgia College study abroad participants are required to complete an online orientation and attend the program-specific orientation planned by your program director. The Georgia College Student Code of Conduct applies on all study abroad programs.

HOPE and Other Scholarships
The Financial Aid Office has information on the HOPE Scholarship, Pell Grant and Stafford Loans. The International Education Center can help with other study abroad scholarships. Our staff can assist with the determination of costs for each individual program.
