Each year, the Georgia College Foundation receives bequests and other planned gifts from donors with the foresight to plan for the future. These loyal alumni and friends have remembered us with such gifts in a wide range of amounts. All are valued… all are appreciated.
The Legacy Society
The Legacy Society is a society formed to honor these special donors…and to encourage others to do the same. Bequests and other planned gifts support specific programs, and also contribute to building endowment, ensuring the future strength of Georgia College & State University. Membership in The Legacy Society is extended to all those who have provided for Georgia College through their estate plans. Planned gifts can provide ways for donors to make an important contribution to the future of Georgia College, while benefiting from certain tax advantages.
Bequests
Other than a current gift of cash, the simplest form of a planned gift is a bequest in your will. You can provide a bequest to the Georgia College Foundation either by executing a will or adding a codicil to your current will.
Life Insurance
You may wish to make a gift to benefit the University by naming the Georgia College Foundation as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy. A gift of a life insurance policy often allows you to make a substantial gift to the Foundation at a reasonable cost. You also can give to the Foundation a policy you already own, or you may assign the dividends from the policy as a gift. Your insurance agent or accountant can help with the details.
Annuities, Trusts, and Pooled Income Funds
These are examples of gifts that benefit the University while returning income to you for your lifetime. You can use these to sources of income to fund your family’s education, supplement your retirement income or take care of a loved one.
Planned gifts of all types and sizes qualify for membership in The Legacy Society. To join, donors simply declare that they have included the Georgia College Foundation in their estate plans. Information about the specific nature or amount of the gift, when provided, is greatly appreciated. Donors may designate their contributions to specific programs or services, or make unrestricted donations to be used where the needs are greatest. Gifts directed to the endowment are particularly encouraged. Contact us for an enrollment packet, or assistance.
