ESOL Endorsement

Available at the Milledgeville Campus  

Endorsement programs at the graduate level are offered to teachers wishing to add areas of expertise to their current State of Georgia Teacher Certification. The ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Endorsement Program is designed for any P-12 teacher who is interested in learning how to better meet the needs of the students in his/her classroom. The program addresses the competencies required by the Professional Standards Commission's Georgia ESOL Endorsement.

This program consists of three courses:
EDSL 5551  Linguistics, Language, and Language Acquisition  (3 semester hours)
EDSL 5552  Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment English Language Learners (3 semester hours)
EDSL 5553  Socio-Cultural Influences on English Language Learners  (3 semester hours)
Total             9 semester hours

Application Deadlines
July 1                         Fall Semester
November 15             Spring Semester
April 1                        Maymester and Summer Semester

Admission Requirements

  1. Graduate Admissions Application Form
  2. Two professional recommendations (pdf)
  3. Official copies of all transcripts
  4. Passing scores on the Graduate Writing Assessment
  5. Verification of immunization
  6. Verification of Georgia T4 certification or evidence qualified for one or an S4 Georgia Service certification in Speech and Language Pathology

Certification Requirements
After successfully completing the classes and requirements of the program, ESOL endorsement candidates must apply through the Georgia College certification officer for recommendation to the PSC to have the reading endorsement added to their certificates.  Candidates initiate this process themselves; it is not automatic.
