AIKEN, S.C. – Freshman designated hitter Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) from Georgia College & State University (32-22) was voted to the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Baseball Team, the league announced yesterday (May 7).
Pirkle made the most of his first season on the diamond for the Bobcats, hitting at a .366 clip, swatting a team-high eight home runs while driving in 35. He scored 34 times and slugged .634 while placing third on the squad with 85 total bases, despite starting just 34 of the team’s 54 games.
Pirkle is the 44th All-PBC selection all-time for Georgia College, and the first selection at designated hitter since Chris Carr in 2000.
The Bobcats are in action today (May 8) facing host No. 10 USC Aiken at the PBC Tournament with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
