STARKVILLE, Miss. – After winning a losers’ bracket game at LRA Field in Pembroke, N.C., the Georgia College & State University softball squad got some more good news, as outfielder Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) and pitcher Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) were both named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Atlantic Region First Team, the association announced.
Bostick, the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year, has hit .382 with seven home runs and 27 RBI. She also swiped 20 bases and scored 44 runs, hitting .500 in PBC contests.
An All-PBC selection, Chandler stands 25-8 with a 0.91 ERA over her 230 2/3 innings this season. She’s struck out 307 batters, allowing just a .148 opponent batting average. Chandler led the PBC in wins, strikeouts and ERA.
With their first team designations, both Bostick and Chandler will make it on the All-American ballot, due for a May 13 announcement.
Chandler and Bostick were also named to the Daktronics All-South Atlantic Region First Team. Chandler was named to the NFCA second team in 2006, giving her two such career awards. All-time, the Lady Bobcats have landed 18 on the NFCA all-region teams.
The Lady Bobcats will play the loser of today’s North Georgia College & State University/Armstrong Atlantic State University contest tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
