Transfer Student Admissions Requirements

Transfer applicants (including Post Baccalaureate and Second Undergraduate Degree applicants) have (or will have at the time of enrollment) at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of transferable college credit and will be eligible to immediately return to their previous school. Students with less than 30 hours of transferable college credit are also subject to the freshman evaluation process.

Minimum Transfer Student Admission Requirements

The John Lounsbury School of Education and the School of Health Sciences have separate and competitive admissions application procedures and requirements in addition to admission to the general university. Please contact the School of Education at (478) 445-4056 or the School of Health Sciences at (478) 445-4092 for additional information. Students interested in Mass Communication should call (478) 445-4581 for additional information.

Transfer Student Applicant Timeline

Transfer, Post-Baccalaureate, and  Second Undergraduate Degree student applications are processed by the Office of the Admissions, (478) 445-2774.

Student applications are evaluated once the file is complete with all supporting documents received. Evaluations and notifications are processed on a rolling basis.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete the application process as early as possible and well in advance of posted deadlines.

Transfer Admissions Deadlines

Qualified students are admitted on a space available basis. Admission files should be complete for the following terms by the indicated deadline:

  • Fall, July 1

  • Spring, November 1

  • Maymester, April 1

  • Summer, May 1

A transfer applicant’s overall grade point average on all college or university work attempted must meet the appropriate GPA (as determined by the standard calculation process used by the Georgia College & State University Office of the Registrar)  requirement associated with the number of transferable, semester  hours a student has earned.  Some specific majors require additional admissions procedures and higher grade point averages for transfer admission.  In general, all academic grades earned, including Ds and Fs, from every college attended are figured in the calculation of the transfer grade point average.  If a D or F grade course is repeated, grades earned on both courses are included in the transfer average calculation.  As with its own students, GCSU does not recognize plus or minus (+/-) adjustments to grades in the calculation.
